Most of us have encountered checkpoints in our lives, moments when we meet something on the road that causes us to pause, and find either a way past, or a different route altogether.

That idea is what binds together this series, that includes stories of a white buffalo, a life changing trip to sin city, a man leaving the priesthood (the writer is grateful he did), reflections on adoption, and a celebration of dropping out of school and other supposedly rash decisions.

“Checkpoints” is the second series of stories produced by the Senior Seminar in Journalism at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick (Class of 2017).

Philip Lee, Fredericton, N.B., January 5, 2017.
